Commissioned for the Singapore Biennale, this project underwent radical transformation when Raskin discovered the four individuals hired as assistants were indentured laborers from Bangladesh and India earning $17/day and living in shipping containers after having their passports confiscated. Following an ethical crisis and a site incident involving an altar fire, which prompted the hiring of a geomancer to perform an energetic healing of the Old Kallang Airport, Raskin reconfigured the 4,000-square-foot installation into a pedagogical space. The resulting installation was formed through a series of prompts rooted in teaching the assistants hard skills like carpentry and painting so they might increase their future wages; and directly addressing the political economy of labor in the art world and the legacy of colonialism and indentured servitude in Singapore.
