This series of four oil-on-cotton paintings was shown at Brooklyn gallery This Friday or Next Friday, constituting the initial iteration of an ongoing investigation into the relationships between American Apparel, fat fashion, and masc fashion. These works depict wear and tear on underwear—not through actual physical degradation but through application of oil paint directly onto cotton undergarments themselves. By rendering imagery of deterioration onto actual fabric, this approach collapses the distinction between subject and medium, an exploration that aligns with Raskin's broader practice concerned with material transformation and boundaries between functional objects and images.
